Promoting Live Animal and Meat Export from the IGAD region

The IGAD region is recognized for its vast wealth of livestock estimated at 532 million, out of which 360 million are ruminants. However, available data indicates that only 10 million heads of live animals and 41,000 MT of meat were exported to Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries in 2017. This was equivalent to about 50% and 10% of annual live animals and meat demand by MENA countries.
