Dissemination Workshop on Conflict and Livestock Interventions, 21-22 December 2017, Naivasha – Kenya

The IGAD Center for Pastoral Areas and Livestock development (ICPALD ) has been undertaking a number of regional studies  on policies, strategies , guidelines and validated them with member states, providing  and organizing  training and experience sharing to enhance the capacity of different stakeholders in collaboration with member states , various projects (RPLRP, SMP, STSD, VETERINARY GOVERENANCE, LIVESTOCK & MEAT, among others ) and partners .

The objectives of the workshop were to share an overview of the findings on Conflict Sensitivity and Prevention and livestock, discuss on modalities of domestication /rolling out/ the findings and good practices and agree on the way forward and monitoring of the implementation.

The welcoming remark was made by Dr. Ameha Sebsibe on behalf of the Director of ICPALD. and opened by Dr. Obadiah Njagi, the Chief Veterinary Officer, Kenya. He emphasized on the need to share information using the modern technology especially uploading the developed strategies and other documents on to the websites for easy access.
The participants commended ICPALD for the wealth of information generated and for organizing an event for sharing the findings.

Recommendations from the meeting included;

  1. ICPALD should upload all the nationally and regionally validated strategies, guidelines, frameworks, policy briefs, good practices  and any other useful information on its website
  2. IGAD/ICPALD to organize briefing meetings with relevant public authorities such as Ministers, parliamentary committees, Permanent secretaries, undersecretaries and the senior technical staff for wider dissemination, information sharing and advocacy; IGAD secretariat also to ensure that issues related to livestock development in the region are well articulated and highlighted in IGAD summit meetings.
  3. IGAD/ICPALD to work closely with member states on strategies, guidelines, frameworks, policies are harmonized and acted on to foster regional integration.
