Ecosystem Restoration for Feed, Food & Nutrition in E.A. Drylands

Background

Ecosystem restoration is paramount for sustaining livelihoods, ensuring food security, and bolstering resilience in the face of climate change within the East African drylands - Arid and Semi-Arid Lands
(ASALs). Although delicate, these regions boast of vast ecosystems, upon which communities heavily rely for their sustenance. Unsustainable land use practices, coupled with climate variability and land degradation, pose significant threats to the ecological balance and food production capacity of these areas. It is imperative to underscore the critical role of ecosystem restoration in fortifying
food and nutrition security in these regions, emphasizing the intrinsic connection between ecosystem restoration and sustainable agricultural practices in fostering resilience.
