October 8-11, 2025 (KITALE, Kenya) ICPALD facilitated the showcasing of value-added rangeland products from cross-border pastoral communities in Kaabong District-Uganda and Kapoeta East County-South Sudan during the four-day ASK Kitale National Show.
The event provided a regional opportunity for 16 community members to expand their market base, enhance visibility of their products and create awareness on sustainable climate-resilient livelihood options. In addition to showcasing their rangeland products, the exhibitors interacted with buyers and explored new business partnerships.
Commercialization of natural products such as honey, gums, resins, and herbal extracts offers alternative livelihood options for pastoral youth and women while supporting biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.
This annual event aligns with IGAD’s Informal Cross-Border Trade Protocol and Regional Trade Policy (2022) that promote small-scale trade, market integration and livelihood diversification within the IGAD region.
Participation was funded by the Government of Sweden through Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) under the Sustainable Ecosystem Management (SEM) project.
