Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development for Fragility Reduction (EIFR) Project
Background
This Project seeks to strengthen institutional capacity for entrepreneurship and innovation development and job creation in Djibouti, South Sudan and Sudan. The Project aims at bringing together learning institutions (at tertiary level), the private sector and the governments to: (i) strengthen entrepreneurship and innovation at institutional, national and regional levels; and (ii) stimulate employment opportunities for youth by supporting and promoting the establishment of start-ups led by young entrepreneurs.
The Project development objective is to strengthen institutional capacity for entrepreneurship and innovation development and job creation in Djibouti, South Sudan and Sudan. This will be achieved through two (2) specific objectives: (i) building institutional capabilities to foster entrepreneurship and innovation at institutional, national and regional levels; and (ii) stimulating employment opportunities for youth by supporting and promoting the establishment of start-ups led by young entrepreneurs with focus on livestock and agricultural products value chain.
Project Components

- COMPONENT 2: National Youth Entrepreneurship & Innovation (E&I) Development Challenge
- Component 3 will support Project management, communications, monitoring and evaluation
Funding and Budget
- Funding: The Project is funded by Africa Development Bank (AfDB)
- Total budget: USD 3.2 million
- Project Period: August 2023 – December 2025
Project Beneficiary
The Project will benefit:
(a) Three (3) higher learning institutions, namely, the Universities of Khartoum, Juba and Djibouti.
(b) 1500 students and academic staff members (50% female) within the targeted institutions/countries whose knowledge regarding the teaching and practice of entrepreneurship will be improved due to the direct trainings and support for them to develop, test and commercialize their ideas; and
(c) 60 youth-led enterprises/start-ups, comprising 2 youth per enterprise (giving rise to 120 youth) that are projected to directly benefit from incubation training and seed funding.
